The dates are slightly later than usual but there is a reason for this. On Saturday 24th September 2016, Zell am Ziller village celebrates the Almabtrieb. This is the annual festival when the cattle are brought down from the high alpine, summer pastures into the village for the winter. It is an occasion for much merriment and celebration. The cattle are all dressed in beautiful floral decoration. It is a lovely event and a very enjoyable day. Search for ‘images’ of Almabtrieb on the Internet to give you a flavour.
Zell am Ziller is a delightful location and Camping Hofer is within easy strolling distance of the town centre. There is much to see and do in the area and you may well wish to arrive earlier and spend more time. Camping Hofer is an ACSI site and offers discounted prices at this time of year.
The route to Zell am Ziller, via Germany, is straightforward and does not require a Go Box. We will be suggesting some stop overs for you on the route down and maybe you would like to team up with some fellow Carthago owners on the way. There are some beautiful places to visit in southern Germany and Austria.

Fri 23rd Many options available.
A suggestion is to take your bicycle on the steam train (Zillertalbahn) up the valley to Mayrhofen. Then maybe take a cable car ride up one of the mountains for lunch. You can take a bus from Mayrhofen to Hintertux and then take a cable car ride up to the glacier where there is summer ski-ing available.
Return to Mayrhofen, pick up your bicycle and free wheel back to Zell am Ziller along the river bank. There are lovely cafés in the village which serve delicious cakes for tea!

The campsite charge is inclusive of electricity, taxes and Wi-Fi for the four nights. Meal prices and tour prices are yet to be confirmed but the estimated cost is around £225 per Carthago (2 people) to include 4 nights at campsite, evening meals on Friday and Saturday, coach tour and lunch on the Thursday.
Camping Hofer is a small campsite and numbers will be limited - so please book early!
